Arribada a Nairobi
Dijous 18 Gener 2007 - 16:32
The beginning of this project, which now seems more distant in our memory that it is in time, did fill our suitcases with the illusion of contributing with our small effort to the cause, and the wish of sharing the discovery of the meaning of the World Social Forum (WSF). Little by little, the production of a first documentary was made a reality thanks to the help of many people who had the same idea in mind: another world is possible.
Every day we spend here makes more and more evident the general ignorance existing about the celebration of the WSF. This year 1453 different organizations coming from more than a hundred countries are meeting here in Nairobi, and the event seems invisible to the eyes of the world, almost silenced. We wonder if it is necessary a violent conflict to happen to make sure the presence of TV cameras and journalists. Some media call it “breaking news”. What do we remember when we think about the antiglobalization movement? We can’t help but to see broken shop windows, clouds of tear gas and the solid-rock conviction that the world can’t be changed. We constantly receive information that we store in our brains, which we use to build a distorted reality that prevent us from seeing other realities that deserve to be observed. For this reason, we consider extremely important to stress the human efforts of all the activists reunited here at the WSF. The efforts made daily by people all around the world who think and act, furthering specific movements that improve the social, political and economical situation of the people here and there. It’s time to open our eyes to other realities.
